So I could read my notes to refresh my memory on where I had gone and what I had done. I originally started the diary to keep track of my progress just in case I went too long without playing. Once again I’ve taken up the FF8 torch and this time I plan to finish Final Fantasy 8 and run that torch beyond the finish line! The furthest I ever got was the space scene on the third disc… Never have I gotten beyond that, even though I’ve spent well over 100 hours playing FFVIII (and on multiple playthroughs, even topping over 100 hours) in the past.

However FFVIII is still a favorite game of mine that I’ve never ever managed to beat.

This 4-disc opus about Squall, Rinoa, Quistis, Seifer, Zell, Laguna, Selphie and friends is one of my favorite games of all time. And the second Final Fantasy RPG for the PS1, released in 1999 following 1997’s Final Fantasy VII.

Oddly enough, the American release's manual has an entire section on Chocobo World! However, it begins with the text:

This is available in both the Steam re-release of the game and the 2013 re-release of the 2000 PC version. Although the game was localized, the PocketStation itself was not released outside of Japan, thus making the mini-game inaccessible without importing a PocketStation. This allowed the player to collect items and power-up certain Guardian Forces.

There is a unique feature which allows the player to download a mini-RPG called Chocobo World to the PocketStation. It's a shame that there's no way to junction this spell normally. These boosts tend to be, by and large, second only to those granted by Ultima. (Note: All increases assume 100 of the spell are junctioned to the respective stat.)

However, one aspect of it isn't available normally: This spell can be junctioned as normal, and has a full set of stat boosts, as follows. The Apocalypse spell itself isn't unused at all Ultimecia can cast it in the very last battle, and it can be drawn from her and even stocked.

Catastrophe - Deals heavy non-elemental damage to all enemies.

Percent - This drops the HP of all enemies to critical levels.

No 'Slot' spells can be junctioned, however. Both can be obtained as normal spells with a GameShark (as can the four that are used), and work as advertised, though they weren't given unique animations, and look identical to the Fire spell. There are a pair of spells intended for Selphie's 'Slot' Limit command that weren't used.
